Virgo-F&F

It’s clear that Akoni Eyewear’s new VIRGO frames hark back to an optimistic midcentury moment, when the future looked so bright, that everyone needed sunglasses. In Europe, cinema’s newest stars—think Bardot and Lollobrigida—would slip on frames like these while relaxing on the beaches of the Côte d’Azur and Deauville. And, on the other side of the Atlantic, a radical Pop-Art scene was beginning to blossom—with surprising new visions by audacious young talents like Warhol and Lichtenstein relying on those same bold shapes, pops of bright colors and dot-matrix patterns that the Virgo frames echo today. Virgo’s impressively sculpted full-acetate face builds on new color possibilities that are just as eye-catching as those seen on ‘60s screens and canvases, with the strong black, powerful orange and an enticing grey-pink swirl fronts, all perfectly framed by striking lines of contrasting enamels.
